Bulky Trash - out too early, AGAIN

On 8/31/05, I got an e-mail from a resident that was upset because he noticed during his nightly walk of the neighborhood that night, there was a lot of Bulky Trash already put out, and once again, too early. I got in my
car that night and drove down only two of the streets he mentioned walking down and was unpleasantly surprised. Whenever the trash is set out for our monthly pickup, it makes our neighborhood look unkept and trashy, which I know is unavoidable for that period of time. So, please try to remember the rules so that our neighborhood doesn't look like this any longer than it has to.

If you don't remember the dates each month for our pickup, the Bulky Trash Schedule for the entire City of Dallas comes in your Water bill each month and is translated in both English and Spanish. Also, I listed the dates for the remainder of this year in our last newsletter. The next Bulky Trash pickup for our neighborhood is the first Monday of the month, which is next week, not this week. Code Compliance rules are that no bulky trash is to be set out prior to 7:00 a.m. the Thursday before our pickup week and no later than 7:00 a.m. the Monday of our pickup week.

The next time our Bulky Trash is scheduled to be picked up, after the September 2005 pickup next week, is October 3rd - October 8th. That means that you are in violation if your trash is set out prior to 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29th and will also be in violation if your trash is set out after 7:00 a.m. on Monday, October 3rd.

If any of you have any suggestions as to how we can begin to get this neighborhood problem under control, please let me know.

OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS...

I need lots of suggestions for our neighborhood.

First of all, we have many different races in our neighborhood. I need to know if anyone has an idea what we can do to help us better understand each others cultures so that we can become a unified neighborhood. According to one of the posts on this new site, there are African American residents that feel they are singled out by racial profiling. We need to find a way to stop this for ALL cultures here. Learning each others differences will be a big help.

Second, there are many Latinos in our neighborhood that don't speak English. I have been told that there are two different Spanish languages. One is proper Spanish and the other is slang Spanish. I want to be able to reach these residents, yet haven't yet figured out a way to do this. I would love to let them know that the Casa View United Methodist Church at Materhorn and Ferguson has free classes to teach Spanish speaking individuals how to speak English. Since English is the primary language spoken in this country and since there are many residents that have been here 40-50 years and are not capable at this point in their life of learning any new language, I believe that this is one way that could help bridge the gap. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Third, we still don't have anyone in charge of our Social Committee. We desperately need to have Social Activities for our neighborhood. This is one thing that will help greatly in uniting us as friends and neighbors. If you have any suggestions as to a social activity that you think would be good for our neighborhood, please let me know.

That's it for now. I'm open to any and all suggestions you have. You may have an idea for our neighborhood that doesn't even pertain to the three items above. I would love to hear those ideas as well! This neighborhood is ours. We are the ones who live here. Let's make this neighborhood what WE want it to be, not what the City Officials think it should be!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Cindy

Bulk Trash Pickup FIRST MONDAY

FIRST MONDAY
I never have understood the confusion regarding Bulk Trash Pickup.
The City uses "Week 1" to describe our pickup week.
Week 1 means nothing. Remember 1st Monday and have your
bulk trash out before 7am on the 1st Monday of the month.
You can actually start putting it out at 7am the Thursday before the 1st MONDAY.
It doesn't matter what date the 1st Monday is. The 1st Monday can be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th.
Look at a calendar for the 1st Monday. It is that simple.
